Ice Age

In Ice Age, a group of misfits comes together during, well, the Ice Age. First, there’s Manny, a grumpy woolly mammoth with a soft side (but don’t tell him that). Then there’s Sid, a sloth who’s more talk than action but somehow keeps things lively. And let’s not forget Diego, a sleek saber-toothed tiger with his own mysterious agenda. These three unlikely companions are forced to team up when they stumble upon a lost human baby.

Now, you’d think returning a baby to its family would be a straightforward task, but no! Between snowstorms, crazy glacier rides, and a squirrel named Scrat who’s obsessed with his acorn, the adventure gets wilder by the minute. Manny, Sid, and Diego face plenty of danger along the way, but the real challenge might just be putting up with each other.

Madagascar

In Madagascar, four pampered zoo animals from New York—Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the hypochondriac giraffe, and Gloria the sassy hippo—live the dream at Central Park Zoo. But when Marty gets hit by a midlife crisis (and maybe a bit of wanderlust), he decides to break free and see the wild. Naturally, his pals freak out and chase him down, which results in them all accidentally being shipped off to Madagascar.

Now, instead of plush enclosures and room service, they’re stranded in the jungle, where the “wild” is a bit too wild for their liking. With lemur royalty (led by the hilariously self-absorbed King Julien) and some not-so-friendly predators lurking around, the group has to figure out how to survive—and most importantly, how to get back home before their next zoo feeding time!

Rio

In Rio, Blu, a rare blue macaw from snowy Minnesota, lives a cushy life as a pet bird who’s never even flown! He’s more about cozying up to books than taking off into the wild. But when Blu’s human, Linda, finds out he’s one of the last of his kind, they jet off to Rio de Janeiro to meet Jewel, a fierce and independent female macaw, in hopes of saving the species.

But things don’t go as planned—of course. Blu and Jewel get bird-napped by a bunch of animal smugglers, and now Blu, who’s as clueless about the wild as a bird can be, has to escape, learn to fly, and find his way back. Along the way, they meet a colorful crew of animals—think smooth-talking toucans, samba-dancing birds, and even a bulldog with a drooling problem. And let’s not forget they’re being chased by a villainous cockatoo with a serious chip on his shoulder!

Open Season

In Open Season, Boog, a 900-pound grizzly bear, lives the ultimate lazy bear life—indoors! Raised by a kind-hearted park ranger named Beth, Boog’s more into snacking and watching TV than surviving in the wild. But things go off the rails when he crosses paths with Elliot, a hyperactive, one-antlered deer who drags Boog into the craziest adventure of his life.

After a wild night of mayhem in town, Boog and Elliot are dropped into the deep forest—just in time for hunting season. Now, Boog has no clue how to “bear,” and Elliot, well, he’s barely surviving as it is. Together, they rally an army of zany forest animals to turn the tables on the hunters, making the woods the last place anyone would want to go. The wilderness has never been this wild!

The Angry Birds Movie

In The Angry Birds Movie, we land on Bird Island, where all the flightless birds are pretty chill—except for Red. He’s got a temper as big as his eyebrows and doesn’t really vibe with everyone else’s “happy-go-lucky” attitude. After one too many outbursts, Red gets sentenced to anger management, where he meets fellow oddballs Chuck, the hyperactive speedster, and Bomb, who, well, literally explodes when stressed.

Just when life couldn’t get weirder, a bunch of suspicious green pigs show up on the island, acting all friendly, but something’s fishy. Red doesn’t trust them, and as it turns out, he might be onto something. With his new buddies Chuck and Bomb, Red tries to figure out what the pigs are really up to, and it’s not good. Things escalate quickly, leading to an all-out bird vs. pig showdown that takes this flock to places they never thought they’d go!

And there you have them, folks, the best animated hilarious animal adventure movies you should watch today if you like Shrek.
