In recent years, many animated movies have been remade with real actors instead of cartoons. Disney especially loves doing this with their classic films. They’ve even decided to redo Moana, which is pretty new compared to their other movies. Other movie studios are doing the same thing, like with the upcoming new version of “How to Train Your Dragon”.
But if you’re hoping for live-action versions of Pixar movies, don’t hold your breath. The head guy in charge of creative stuff at Pixar, Pete Docter, recently said they’re not planning to do that. He’s directed a bunch of their popular movies like Monsters Inc., Up, and the first Inside Out.
When asked about making a live-action Ratatouille or any other Pixar film, Pete Docter explained why he’s not into the idea.
He thinks it’s more exciting to make movies that are totally new and different. For him, redoing old movies isn’t very interesting. He also pointed out that a lot of what makes Pixar movies special only works because they’re animated. Like, if a real person walked into a floating house, it wouldn’t make sense because houses are heavy. But in a cartoon world, where a guy can stand in a floating house, you’re like, “Sure, I get it.”
Pixar’s had some movies lately that didn’t do as well with critics or in theaters. Plus, because of the pandemic, some of their movies went straight to streaming on Disney+ instead of playing in theaters.
Pete Docter knows that the success of Inside Out 2 is really important for Pixar right now. If it does well at the box office, it could be a big win for them and for summer movies in general.
Early reviews for Inside Out 2 have been super positive, so things are looking good for Pixar. If the movie does great at the box office, it could mean good things for the future of Pixar and for summer movies, which have been struggling lately.
